The current Uni brief I am working on asks us to 'investigate a site', be it large or small. It must be accessible, mundane in some way but also carry interesting characteristics, the outcome will be a display of the characteristics of the site in visual format via some form of 'info graphics'.
My site is the Netgear wireless router in my 8 bedroom student house, a fairly everyday object - yet provides a very complex service, in the last week I have been collecting data from my housemates concerning their use of the wireless network, information such as time spent online, sites visited and areas of the house in which they connect to the network.
'Connection'
The router offers myself and my housemates a connection to almost any information, or resource we require, be it leisure or work related. It also allows us to communicate with a huge range of people, via intant messaging services such as MSN Messenger, Skype and Yahoo - or through social networking sites such as Facebook, MySpace and Twitter.
During the following 3 weeks of the project - I will be gathering more data concerning my site, and producing a visual outcome that conveys its often over-looked qualities.
