Returned to Cardiff last week after two fine weeks back in Swindon socialising, working and relaxing. I started a two week long work placement at Cardiff Bay agency Elevator on Tuesday - I've had a top experience so far, working on a re branding exercise for a south Wales food distribution business.
Whilst initially intimidated by the fast paced studio environment I settled into my 'university taught' working method fairly easily and started documenting my train of thought, but trying to compare this challenge to a university brief is almost impossible. Having worked in 'the industry' before I had a fairly good idea of what to expect, but in comparison to a 1 hour brief with notes, considerations and guidelines already in place, a 5 minute conversation with Steve and a copy of the companies original (and terrible) existing identity, I set to work.
The company 'Puffin Produce' own a number of potato farms on the coast of Pembrokeshire, which, as suggested by the name, are regularly inhabited by Atlantic Puffins. I received the brief on Tuesday morning and have worked on it all week, presenting my solution yesterday to both the director and head designer. Thankfully they were impressed with my visuals, and suggested that with some refinement it would be an excellent piece of work to include in my end of year show.
The client will be looking over my presentation early next week, I will post up some visuals and some more reflection on my work 'experience' shortly.
